could not produce the hormone insulin. Insulin delivers the
sugar from our blood to our cells, where it is used as energy.
When the body does not have enough insulin, sugar builds up
in the blood instead of getting into the cells. This condition
is commonly known as high blood-sugar. Sugar substitutes do
not contain any glucose that induces the production of insulin,
thus they can be effective sweeteners for diabetics. |

What to Eat for the Week |
Complex
carbohydrates are benefitical for diabetics due to the way
it is broken down in the body. As the body processes complex
carbs, small glucose molecules are released into the blood
over an extended period of time. This helps to regulate blood-sugar
levels. Examples of complex carbs are pasta, grains, wholemeal
breads, brown rice, cereal, legumes and vegetables.
Recommended by Eat Doc: To give yourself time getting used
to eating brown rice, start off with eating porridge of brown
rice and white rice mixture. |
